Landscape Arch is considered the longest natural arch in the world, with a span maeasured at 290 feet.
"LANDSCAPE ARCH, near mid-point of the hike, is perhaps the most spectucular formation in the region. Its slender ribbon of banded black and salmon stone, only a few feet in thickness, has a length of 291 feet, and is 118 feet above the canyon floor. Its span is believed to be the longest in the Americas."
--- Utah. A Guide to the State, 1941
The arch received it's present name from the leader of the 1933-34 Arches National Monument Scientific Expedition, Frank Beckwith. In the past years, three slabs of rock have fallen from the arch, causing the park to close the trail that once led underneath this iconic arch.
If you look closely, you can see discoloration in sections of the arch, which would point to weaker spots.
