Favorite thing: Oberon is surrounded by quaint villages and larger town centres, that enable visitors to use Oberon as a base for a variety of day excursions. As part of the World Heritage Listed Greater Blue Mountains Region, Oberon is a popular area for horse riding, trout fishing, four wheel driving, mushroom picking, bushwalking and sapphire fossicking.

While Evans Crown Nature Reserve and Kanangra Walls offer you both relaxing and challenging walks, keen anglers flock to Lake Oberon and the rivers and creeks in the area.
On the outskirts of the town, Lake Oberon is renowned for trout-fishing.
The village of Oberon, proclaimed in 1863, takes the name from the King of the Fairies in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights Dream. It has grown to an estimated resident shire population of 5,077 at 30 June 2002, with around 2,700 living in the township itself.

Oberon has good shopping facilities and a number of restaurants, cafes and takeaways while visitors staying in self catering accommodation are well serviced by supermarkets, butchers and bakeries. A good variety of visitor accommodation is available with a choice of hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, self contained cottages and farmstay. There are also caravan parks and several camping grounds in the shire.

Oberon has a true mountain climate, and the occasional snowfall is a bonus.
The area is still well known for its gardens, featured during the Oberon Daffodil Festival in late September that's become an annual event since 1984 taking place on the last weekend in September.

Fondest memory: Frankly, I've only been there twice and its reputation for having weather, shall we say, less than warm, has been justified while I have visited!
