"Buns Festival in Cheung Chau" Hong Kong Things to Do Tip by Quinevere

Hong Kong Things to Do: 2,575 reviews and 4,787 photos

Spectacular annual event to present offerings to the gods that safeguard the island and its people and to pacify the departed spirits of pirated victims. The most impressive festive structures are the giant bun towers. The highlight is the float procession, lion dances and unicorn dances that meanders through the narrow streets of the island. The floats feature children in heavy make-up dressed as ancient or contemporary figures to float above spectators' heads.
