"Galata Tower - have a great view of Istanbul" Istanbul Ili Things to Do Tip by Penelope4

Istanbul Ili Things to Do: 154 reviews and 562 photos

And you think you've seen it all until you go up the Galata Tower. Although the passage is not wide enough for two visitors to walk together up there, everybody can not help but be polite and let others pass by as they themselves enjoy the sight as they wait their turn.

The Galata Tower is said to have a diameter of 8.95 meters and its wall thickness to be 3.75 meters. If you are in a hurry, I would not recommend to have a bite in the restaurant because the visitors will just block the view as they pass by the corridor. I must admit I had the time but although the rice pudding and the Turkish coffee were nice, I couldn't enjoy the view because it was crowded outside and there was no point to glance in any direction.

The entrance costs only 10 Turkish Lira which is not much compared with other entrance fees because it is really worth it.

Oh, the height is 61 meters from the ground and they say that including its tower, it is about 140 meters from the sea level.

Address: Take the tram to Karakoy and from there, walk.
Directions: The streets leading to the tower are rather narrow. Forget your map. Just remember where you saw it from afar and from the main street, walk uphill and there will be signs that will lead you there.
Phone: (212) 293 8180 for table reserv.
