South Moreton Bay Touriist Trail, Brisbane: 15 reviews and 33 photos
Now, we have just had a look at a cute old Church in Shore street Cleveland, and just around the corner is another historical site.
No need to get in the car, walk.
Located here, is an enormous BANYAN TREE.
This Banyan Tree, which is a member of the Fig family, is the
....OLDEST ONE IN QUEENSLAND
It distinguishes itself from the Moreton Bay fig tree, as it has an aerial root system, simply amazing!
It has spread so much, that it would not all fit in one photo!
You can tell that it is an old tree, as with age, their aerial prop roots which grow into thick woody trunks, can become indistinguishable from the main trunk. Old trees can spread out laterally using these prop roots to cover a wide area.
This is what this one has done, it actually has put down roots in the neighbour's front garden. so I guess, they can become quite a pest!
The largest such tree is now found in Kolkata in India.
