The Washington Square Park is one of the best known parks in New York and is nearly 10 acres in size. We were lucky to stay at The Washington Square Hotel which is located at one corner of the park and sat in the park a number of times soaking up the sun. The park has had a number of uses over its history including being farmland, a cemetery, a military parade ground and now a public park. The park is instantly recognisable because of the Washington Square Arch which regularly features in movies. The arch was put up to celebrate the centennial of George Washington's inauguration as president and is modelled on the Arc de Triomphe. The park is located at 5 Avenue, Waverly Place, West 4th and MacDougal Streets.
