Chateau Comtal Museum, Carcassonne: 7 reviews and 28 photos
Furnishings of the period of the Castle (12-13C) are rare but many pieces from excavations from Roman and Visigothic times, and from the Church of St. Nazaire before it was restored, are displayed in the Gallo-Roman and Romanesque rooms. In the latter is an enormous ablution basin (12C) , a sarcophagus and an antependium (altar frontal) and primitive capitals, all from St. Nazaire. Further on are disc shaped funerary steles and tombstones of the 11-12C. They all show that stone carving was still mostly simple and often primitive.
