  Palazzo Contarini Polignac
by MM212

This early Renaissance palace occupies an important position on the Grand Canal near Ponte dell'Accademia. It was built in the 15th century for the Contarini dal Zaffo family and is thought to have been designed by Giovanni Buora. Its beautiful fašade is covered with carved white marble, accentuated with a few polychrome marble decorations. The palazzo changed ownership several times during is history, with Princess de Polignac being the most notable. Thus, the palace is sometimes referred to as Palazzo Contarini Polignac.
