"Port Douglas" Australia Things to Do Tip by SirRichard

Australia Things to Do: 1,336 reviews and 2,265 photos

When thinking of visiting the Great Barrier Reef my first thought as a destination was CAIRNS. It was the main airpot and the natural basecamp to visit the area. But after reading and searching I found out that most of the daytrips leaving Cairns made scale or really departed from a little town in the north called PORT DOUGLAS. So I decided to make it short and headed there. And it was a good choice, this charming colonial village has beaches, marinas, restaurants and very good location for Reef and rainforest trips, so it's a perfect basecamp. Being so small you can go walkiing to anywhere and it has a very relaxed atmosphere (specially after the weekends when the crowds leave the streets of this laidback paradise).
