"Views from the Prato San Agostino" Historical Centre - Old Town Tip by JoostvandenVondel
Historical Centre - Old Town, Siena: 41 reviews and 84 photos
Perhaps the most wonderful thing to do in Siena is just to walk through her old medieval streets and wonder at the views that greet the observant visitor.
Located in the South East corner of the walled city, the Prato San Agostino offers some spectacular views of the city. There are lots of little cafeterias and take-aways in the neighbourhood, so it might be a good idea to grab some lunch and sit in the courtyard for a while. I did this on numerous occasions as my school was close by in the Via Tommaso Pendola.
The square is dominated by the church of San Agostino which is medieval in origins, but heavily modified, especially after it suffered a devasting fire and was completely revamped in 1755. But what I especially like is the view of the South Eastern corner of the city, not to mention the cute little church of San Giuseppe. This church marks the beginning of the Via Giovanni Dupre, which if followed will lead you to the back of the Palazzo Civico and the Piazza Mercato for even more views.
Address: Prato San Agostino
Directions: South Eastern corner of the medieval walled city; just North of the Porta Tufi and the Botanical Gardens.
