The marker reads:

Fort Bridger
Established in 1858
As a military post
Aslo
Pony Express
Station
And on the
Old Oregon Trail

You know, you have to appreciate the hardship our ancestors experienced. Bad enough having hoofing it across the plains, rocky mountains, and the harsh summer months. Yet, to ride a horse practically at full speed across the terrain was hard on the body and soul for both man and beast. You have to learn to trust your saddle and what is underneath it. Horses trip and fall too. And they in turn have to trust the one with the hat. So bless all those pony express riders and their trusty steeds!
