Zoo, Chiang Mai: 13 reviews and 39 photos
The Chiang Mai Zoo is located just on the edge of the city
The zoo is situated on the side of a hill covering about 200 acres with quite a few steep climbs.
From the entrance a long looping road takes you through the park.
There are Trams that run the route and they cost an EXTRA 20 T/BAHT
There is quite a good assortment of Animals. There are some old-style small cages, quite a few of the Animals are in new open pens, and there are a lot more being made, so it should be really nice in the future.
The setting and gardens are very nice, and you do get some good views to Chiang Mai. On my walk, I found plenty of places to buy water and Icecreams, plus Cafes if you wanted something more substansial to eat. There were also plenty of Toilets scattered around the Zoo.
You could get quite close to a lot of the Animals, and if I had children, I certainly would make sure they didn't lean over the Hippo fence, it was not that high!
The big drawcard for coming to this zoo, is the Pandas, they were a must see!
OPEN 8 - 5PM (last admission) I think it actually closes at 6pm.

I caught the Red Songtaew from the middle of the old city and it cost in (2009) 40tb, to be dropped off at the Zoo entrance.
Directions: How to get there: Chiang Mai Zoo is located at the Huay Kaew Road. Probably the easiest way to get there is Tuk-Tuk, but Songtaews (Red) going to Doi Suthep also take you to the zoo.
Bus number 3 also goes past the zoo.
