Probably more impressive than the approximately 1300 items collection itself, the museum's story is an important lesson of history: inaugurated in 1942, it was closed in 1975, during the civil war with curators desperately trying to save as much as possible from the collections. The museum was reopened in 1997, after several years of reconstruction and rehabilitation hard work. The 15 minutes movie you can watch in the small theater hall at the ground floor (right as you enter) offers the complete story.

A walk in the museum will take you through the culture of the civilizations that impacted Lebanon's history from prehistory to the 19th century AD.

There is also a small boutique as you enter the museum on the left from where you can buy souvenirs such as a book sign for 1,33 USD (2 000 Lebanese Liras).

Entry fee : 5000 for adults/ 1000 for students and persons under 18;
Opening days and hours : Tuesday to Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM;

And if you don't have the chance to go there, read this wonderful article.
