Canyon de Chelly can be explored by car with scenic overlooks giving fair views of both the ruins and natural beauty of the canyon itself. The South Rim Drive is the more interesting of the two and if pressed for time, it would be the best choice if one is physically unable or not interested in hiking into the canyon itself. On this drive, there are seven overlooks with the most impressive being the White House and Spider Rock. It is 37 miles round trip and your elevation will go from 5,500 to 7,000 at Spider Rock. Sweeping views of the surprisingly green canyon are breathtaking and hard to imagine anyone looking at them and not wanting to go down into it.

Directions: Starts at the Visitor Center.
