"Weather can vary quickly" Top 5 Page for this destination Kodiak Packing List Tip by RickinDutch

Kodiak What to Pack: 7 reviews and 7 photos

Luggage and bags: It is a maritime custom that you never board a vessel with a suit case. This has become more a superstition on commercial fishing boats than other type vessel these days.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: The summer of 2009 here in Kodiak started out with an unusual warm and sunny streak. 3 weeks of sun and temps climbing over 75 on occassion. We have been back to the usual cycle of 2-3 days of rain followed by 2-3 days of sun/overcast. Temps in the 40s and 50s.
Kodiak has always been rainy but lately seems to get more of that heavy tropical deluge type rain. Good rain gear and boots are a must to really enjoy yourself. I use Helly Hansen heavy duty rain parka and pants and Extra Tuff (rubber boots) when I'm fishing or will be out for extended periods of time. Lighter weight gore tex shell and boots if the forecast is too rough looking.

Photo Equipment: With our bears, a good zoom can get you great photos without getting dangerously close.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Lots of unofficial camping spots out the road south of town.
