National Museum - Magyar Nemzeti M˙zeum, Budapest: 24 reviews and 43 photos
The National Museum is hosted in one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest. The elegant Neo-Classical building sits on one edge of the unfashionable District VIII, but its presence has turned part of a once rotten suburb into a new "Museum Quarter", and house prices there have risen accordingly.
The exhibitions are extensive and cover everything from the formation of Hungary until the end of the Communist regime. Hungary has a rich and varied history, so the topics are fascinating, including the Turkish occupation and the glory days of the Austro-Hungarian empire. It also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions, such as a recent one on the Scythians, whose ancient empire bumped up against the modern Hungarian borders.
The Museum is free to enter, but closed on Mondays.
Address: M˙zeum krt. 14-16
Directions: Take M3 to Kalvin Ter, then walk up Muzeum Korut. The museum is on your right.
Phone: (36-1) 338-2122
