The Schonbrunn palace is another must-see on your trip to Vienna. It'd probably be a good idea to take the metro there as it is a little out of the way. It's close to the zoo, so if you're taking the kids there, just head down the street and you'll be able to find the palace. This is a photo from the back of the palace, on the other side there are hedge mazes, plants, etc. Good museum inside and there are some restaurants in the rear as well.
This place is interesting because of it's sheer size. The palace grounds and gardens (daily 6am-dusk; free) also hold Vienna's Tiergarten or Zoo (daily 9am-dusk; öS90) and Palmenhaus (daily: May-Sept 9.30am-6pm; Oct-April 9.30am-5pm; öS45), a glasshouse full of tropical ferns.
