Rome has 2 metro lines (A & B) which cross the city & run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday & Saturday nights they run to 1.30 am. The trains run every few minutes, at certain times of the day they were very crowded. Late at night they could be almost empty & the platforms almost deserted.

Although not all the attractions are close to a station, many are & the metro can be big help when you've so much to see in a short time.

There are ticket machines with instructions in various languages at the stations. They are easy to use & offer you the option of various tickets to suit your time in Rome & your budget.
