From Hoi An to Hue we hired a car and driver because we wanted to stop off and see 3 places on the way,and I discovered that it would be impossible to see these places either by bus or by train.First we stopped at the Marble Mountains, a site just about 40 minutes drive from Hoi An. You climb up a mountain, the entrance ticket includes a map of the site and a set of postcards.Up the mountain you have a beautiful view of the area and the South china Sea. The site has a number of pagodas and temples and some caves with buddha statues in them.It is a lovely spot and is full of Vietnamese praying and lighting incense in the caves. WE enjoyed the place very much. The climb up is a little steep but you will see old and young scrambling up to see the view.It is called Marble Mountain because they excavate Marble there to be used for carving marble statues.AT the base of the mountain are numerous marble workshops and studios anxious to sell you statues of all shapes and sizes. You can walk round and look at the dragons and Happy Buddhas for free though!
