Located on Ayasoluk Hill, this was a great Church of its times. It was built between the years 527 - 565 AD in the 6th Century, in a form of a Cross, and roofed with six massive domes. The columns facing the central aisle have the monograms of the Emperor Justinian and his wife Theodora. It fell into ruins with time, and in 1330, was converted into a mosque. 1402, and the Mongol Army completely destroyed it. It was pillaged for building materials, but thank goodness, restoration in recent years has enabled us to wander through it, and imagine what a magnificent Basilica this was in times gone by.
Don't forget to have a look along the walls and take in the beautiful valley views.

It probably only takes half hour to look through.
Open 8.30 - 4.30pm daily, CLOSED MONDAYS.
