Consisting of a series of adjacent palaces, the Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio was owned by one of Bologna's most prominent families, the Pepoli. The first palazzo was built in 1344 by Taddeo Pepoli, who had been elected Lord of Bologna. The rest of the adjacent palaces were mostly built in the 18th century by Count Gero Pepoli, but conserve some features from older buildings. The main palace is fortress-like in its architecture, with Romanesque and Gothic styles along with some Renaissance details. The palazzo was restored in the early 20th century.
