"Kazimierz ~ 2009" Kazimierz - Jewish District Tip by Pawtuxet

Kazimierz - Jewish District, Krakow: 87 reviews and 174 photos

Not only was I visiting in June..as opposed to October..so the sunshine made everything brighter, but there was a marked difference in tourism and restoration in the Jewish Quarter on this visit. A number of buildings have been restored, new restaurants have opened, and the old Ariel Restaurant had tables in the square and tourist vendors all over the street. Museums have opened and new life has been breathed into the district. It's a fascinating part of the city that shouldn't be missed.

There is one building I notice each time I go. It doesn't change. I would love to know the story behind it. It's the last building in my series of photos.

Address: To the south-east of the historical centre

Hello Janet, I enjoyed your Kazimierz ~ 2009. The buildings seem to have been well restored.
I think the last building in your series of photos is the former Kowea Itim le-Tora Synagogue. It's now a private house & the address was changed from Ulica Józefa 47 to Ul. Józefa 42 -- in your photo of the entrance, it seems to me that the "7" was modified to form the "2".

glad you enjoyed the pics. Wonderful that an entire neighborhood survived... thanks to the Germans making their hdqtrs. in the castle.....no bombs fell on Krakow or Kazimierz. There are some blessings.
