"Church in Nawiady - the oldest in the area" Mazury Off The Beaten Path Tip by evaanna
Mazury Off The Beaten Path: 3 reviews and 11 photos
This former Evangelical and now Catholic church was built in 1600-1603, with a wooden tower dating back to 1687. It has a late-Rennaissance main altar and an organ from 1806. We couldn't see the interior though as Mass was being celebrated there the only time we found it open. In the hall there is an interesting metal plaque in memory of the local people killed in WWI with a long list of the names of the victims.
For many years the vicar of the church was Jan Brafkowius (1678-1738), the editor of the hymn-book 'Selected hymns translated from the German by Jan Brafkowius'.
If you visit the place with your children, they will love the stork's nest on the barn right across the street and another on a chimney visible in the distance.
