"St Thomas Church" Churches Tip by jumpingnorman

The family and I were walking around Fifth Avenue and found ourselves at the footsteps of The Saint Thomas Church. The twins and I waited outside while my wife and her friend went inside to pray and when they returned, my wife said it was spectacular inside. I took a peek myself and indeed the design inside was awesome.
My research later (from the church brochure) showed that the amazing structure inside was The Great Reredos which won the American Institute of Architects’ gold medal in 1925. It dominated the inside of the church and is said to be the largest in the world (80’ high, 43’ wide). This great design features a lot: The twelve Apostles, John the Baptist, Paul, Mark, Luke…even President George Washington is depicted.
The Church was actually founded in 1823, and was burned originally then rebuilt (third church) in 1870.
This is an understated Church in my opinion and they do have guided tours following the 11AM service.
