Lynbay Fish and Chips: "Fast Food The Slow Way!" Ilfracombe Restaurant Tip by johngayton

I had intended to have a proper sit-down lunch here but the restaurant that I'd fancied turned out to be closed on Mondays. The sun was out and the harbour was inviting and so I decided on the much cheaper al fresco option.

Lynbay Fish and Chips is just that - a proper traditional chippie with its offerings of various battered fish, pies, burgers and of course chips - all good healthy stuff! As well as the take-away option the restaurant also has indoor seating, at faux-wood formica-topped tables (as to be expected), and seems to be very family-friendly offering high-chairs and children's DVD's. Service is Devon-friendly and fairly swift when it's busy but at quieter times everything will be cooked (or reheated) to order. On ordering I was told that it would take 5 minutes to cook but if I wanted to sit out on the quay they'd give me a shout when it was ready - no problems!

Favorite Dish: Well it just had to be the Fish and Chips! Nice piece of fresh, flaky, locally-landed cod in a crispy light batter, good chips, not too greasy. Take-away of course and much enjoyed sitting on the quayside wall with a scavenging seagull looking for leftovers - the bird got NOTHING!

For four and a half quid perhaps not the cheapest in the country but certainly value for money and the scenery is free!
