A lot of people complain that Wal-Mart is taking over the world, that they are putting local stores out of business. All of that might be true but we found them to be the best place to load up on supplies. Not only do they have the best prices but in out-of-the-way areas like Southern Utah/Northern Arizona, they have the best selection too. Not only did we stock up on canned beans, tuna, and tomato sauce at great prices, but they carried things like whole wheat pasta and maple syrup which we had a hard time finding elsewhere. The Wal-Mart in Page, AZ was perhaps the best one we found on our six month trip around the US in 2008.

What to buy: Their bakery made not only a fabulous fresh sour dough baguette but also a whole grain one which held up for a few days in our hot car. This came in really handy as we waited for three days at the White House campground to get our permits to hike The Wave and salami, fresh bread, and good beer made it all the more pleasurable. Also, gas in Page was a lot less expensive than anywhere along Route 89 so even though you had t drive 60 miles round trip to pick up supplies you could get cheaper gas while doing it.

Directions: On the main street of Page Arizona. It's tough to miss a Wal-Mart sign.
