"St. Mary's Church - the Veit Stoss altar." Basilica of St Mary - Kosciol Mariacki Tip by Askla

The most precious piece of art in the church is the Oltarz Mariacki, carved by the greatest sculptor in Europe of that time, Veit Stoss. It was created during the years 1477 till 1489. The altar is the largest piece of medieval art of its kind, being ~13 x 11 metres. It is opened every day at noon and closed after the late evening mass, except Saturdays, when it remains open to the Sunday morning mass.
Visitors not coming for praying have to enter the church from southern side but have to buy a ticket from the ticket shop opposite the church before entering. It might not be very well signed which shop to go to, but it should be left one of the two. The entrance fee is 6Pln for adults, and if you want to take photos then buy your label here as well, otherwise you will have to pay to the "guard" inside the church.
