there is a hectic activity near the gangway, and people and goods are boarding within short time; whilst people gather in font of one ferry (picture 1), another ferry which arrived short time before is unloaded of fishes which had been loaded in some village (picture 2).
After the first rush, people come and board more quietly (picture 3), wading through the water (with some sand sacks making steps), and some goods are also loaded, like this bike (picture 4), in acrobatic way!
A klaxon call, and the ferry stars, with rear gear and then slowly begins its journey out of the harbour and then takes speed and will reach Samosir in less than one hour, at the first port. On the way we cross a ferry arriving to Parapat (picture 5). The regular lines have a ferry each half hour at beginning and end of the day, , and during day time, there is one per hour, each way, so you never wait very long time for a lift, either way.

The trip to Samosir takes between 90mn and two hours, and there are ferries starting from 8 am to 7 pm, with a departure about each hour; trip costs 2500Rp
