Favorite thing: In my travels in Tennessee I spent a good deal of time in the rural parts of the state. I have driven the Tennessee portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway twice, spending the night along the route once, I passed through northeastern Tennessee once, and on another occasion I spent three days in the small town of Savannah.

East Tennessee is dominated by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Middle Tennessee is marked by the Cumberland Plateau, with its high flat areas bisected by steep valleys. The western third of the state is marked by the Gulf Coastal Plain which borders the Mississippi River.

Tennessee is a relatively poor and very agrarian state with it main exports being textiles, cotton, cattle, and electrical power; cotton and soybeans are also in abundance in the west. Tennessee has over 82,000 farms, and beef cattle are found in roughly 59 percent of the farms in the state.
