Steere Street runs off Hampton Street and was named after Lee Steere and his family who settled east of Bridgetown. James Lee Steer was a member of the first local Road Board and a pastoralist. He was also an original member of the town?s Agricultural Society and a member of parliament between 1860 and 1870. He was knighted in 1888.
