The Place de la Liberte (formerly the Place Royale) is occupied along its east side by the Hotel de Ville built in the early 17C. It has an arcade under its front face and a Classical entrance on its north side. Across the square to the west is a line of shops also occupying old buildings and extending into the adjacent streets, plus the Church of Ste. Marie, which is also a sales venue. On Saturdays there is a produce market and more here, extending from the Goose Market into the square which is enlarged by the elimination of the choir of the church. In late July and August an outdoor drama festival takes place here (on temporary seating) as well as other events. At all times there is activity and many outdoor tables tended to by eateries.
