Paris Off The Beaten Path: 1,968 reviews and 4,171 photos
Another of the innumerable passages in the faubourg St. Antoine area, quiet and unassuming, a haven of peace away from the bustle of the faubourg full of vans and trucks, onloading and offloading chairs sofas and all sorts, also named after the owner of the land at the time of construction. This passage can only be entered from rue de Charonne as at the other you need to pass the digicoded door. You can get out by this way though into the passage Josset. This passage is well known for its cabinetmakers, upholsterers and french polishers. The 2nd photo shows the workshop of a very special profession : Gainier d'Art, existing in this passage for over 150 years. The art of inlaying leather or restoration on ministerial desks and tables, using sheets of gold and hot irons to get that perfect sheen on the leather. The lady who runs the workshop now, Martine Flé, is one of last persons in France to work also with parchment. The passage and the garage pictured no 4 have been seen in old b + w films.
Ledru Rollin is the nearest metro.
