The Taos Plaza has been the focal point of the town for over two centuries. Though the shops may have changed, the architect probably doesn't look all that much and one can just about imagine Kit Carson strolling around. In fact, the Plaza is the first ever to fly the US flag twenty four hours a day. Southern sympathizers had vandalized the flag but Kit and his comrades decided to nail it to a cottonwood and said they'd shoot anyone trying to deface it. Later, the city was granted permission to fly the flag around the clock due to their protecting it so fiercely. Now, it's a nice place to sit especially in the morning before the crowds arrive.
