Known as the church of the Royal Air Force, St. Clement Danes is an obvious landmark on the Strand. The first church on this site was built in the 9th century during the reign of the Danes, thus the name “St. Clement Danes”. In the following centuries, the church was rebuilt several times, including a larger refurbishment in 1682 by Sir Christopher Wren. It is barely located in the city of Westminster, not far away from the Royal Courts of Justice which is at the border between Westminster and the City of London. Today, its location is on a traffic island and together with St. Mary Le Strand it is known as one of the two “island churches”.
