"Sāmbăta de Sus Monastery" Carpathian Mountains Things to Do Tip by tim76
Carpathian Mountains Things to Do: 18 reviews and 22 photos
The Sāmbăta Monastery is located in the wooded foothills of the Carpathian mountains and makes for a pleasant afternoon excursion. When we visited it was quite busy, although we might have very well been the only foreigners.
The buildings as they stand today are a modern reconstruction of a 17th century monastery, that was destroyed by the Austrians. That's why many things in the monastery look very new.
Sāmbăta Monastery is an example of the Brāncoveanu style, after the famous prince Constantin Brāncoveanu, whose tomb can be seen in the courtyard. The loggias and the many flowers and plants in stone are typical for the Brāncoveanu style.
There are many hotels and restaurants close by.
Address: Halfway between Sibiu and Brasov
