There are altogether 107 columns on the ground floor and the galleries.
The largest columns are about 19 or 20 meters tall. They are at least 1.5 meters diameter. They are made out of granite, the largest weighing well over 70 tons. Eight Corinthian columns were disassembled from Baalbek.
The emperor had material brought over from all over the empire, such as Hellenistic columns from the temple of Artemis at Ephesus.
