Köpenick Palace was originally built in 1558 as a hunting lodge for Elector Joachim II Hector of Brandenburg. It was rebuilt and enlarged between 1677 and 1689 in a Baroque style. The palace has been a museum of applied art since 1963. Renovation work on the palace started in 1994 and lasted for 10 years. The palace is set in a English style park and at one end of an island. There is a church and restaurant in the grounds.
