"Town Hall & Tourist Information" Harpenden Favorite Tip by Willettsworld

Favorite thing: Originally built in 1850 as a school, Park Hall was for many years allowed to deteriorate and consequently its use as a community use building was diminished. In 1988 there was a proposal to demolish it and to sell the land, but because of its historic importance to Harpenden this proposal was rejected and instead the District Council placed a Conservation Order on the building and in 1994 Harpenden Town Council secured a 99-year lease for it to be used as a community hall. The Town Hall, behind Park Hall, contains a very useful tourist information point where you can find town maps and information leaflets.
