Along rue des Ecoles just at the crossroads with rue Jean de Beauvais, is Ion Vlads statue of celebrated and well known Rumanian poet Mihaik Eminescu. Eminescu was a manic-depressive and seems also to have suffered from syphilis. Died after 39 short years in hospital in Bucharest. The area has certainly a Rumanian flavour, as in the small street of rue Jean de Beauvais is the chapel St. Jean the Evangelist, bought by the Rumanian Orthodox Church in 1885, which has a plaque on it dedicated to a journalist J-L Calderon, killed in the revolt that finished by overturning the Communist regime in 1989.
On small square at 34/36 rue des Ecoles 75005 Paris.
Maubert-Mutualité is the nearest metro.
