Adolfo's: "Holds Promise, but Falls Short" Adolfo's Tip by HasTowelWillTravel

Adolfo's, New Orleans: 1 reviews and 0 photos

This little restaurant is tucked above the Apple bar along Frenchman Street, just to the far side of the French Quarter. It looks charming, with only about a dozen tables and local artists on the wall. The atmosphere is great, low lighting and a semi-casual aura about it. We sat in about 20 minutes.

That is where the experience turned for the worse. We sat and waited for 15 minutes until someone acknowledged our existence (we had the table just pointed to us) and brought menus. Another 15 or so passed until water was brought. They were out of spinach, which is a key component of about 20% of their entire menu, and they refused to make substitutions and alterations. And they only take cash. While this is not a problem per se, it was not mentioned before we sat or on the menu. I only overheard another patron mention it, so luckily we were aware of the issue before ordering, but it meant we split an entree instead of a full meal. The service was abysmally slow, they looked like they did not quite get the flow of a restaurant. It was a disappointing experience, and I will most likely not return when I next go to New Orleans.

Favorite Dish: The food was tasty. We had the fish with lemon sauce and capers. The redfish was a decent portion and well-cooked, flaky and still moist. It was preceded by a bowl of pasta with red sauce... decent but nothing spectacular.
