"Postojna cave" Slovenia Things to Do Tip by datapanik

Slovenia Things to Do: 544 reviews and 992 photos

This is the largest and most frequently visited cave system in Slovenia and really is an incredible experience. It is a huge, subterranean world inside; full of ancient stalactites, stalagmites and other weird geological formations. The cave is well-lit throughout so there is no need to bring torches and the temperature inside is a cool and humid 8 degrees which was very welcome on the day I visited when outside was unbearably hot. Entrance to the cave is by a mini railway journey which lasts ten minutes, then the tourists are divided up into language groups (options are Italian, German, English or Slovenian) and follow their chosen guide around the cave system. The guided tour will take around 11/2 hours from entry to exit. Unmissable.

Directions: The town of Postojna is in the south-west region of Slovenia, about an hour away from Ljubljana by bus. Once there you will soon see the direction signs for the cave which is a short walk, about 1/2 k
