"Isolated Flat: Enhancing the Feeling of Loneliness" Molesworth Things to Do Tip by Kakapo2

Molesworth Things to Do: 26 reviews and 26 photos

  What a vast expanse!
by Kakapo2

This vast expanse covers 250 hectares. It is an outwash plain, bounded by the Awatere Fault, covered in scree, short grass and the tall blue flowering borage.

From the south you have a great view of it from Isolated Saddle, from the north you can overlook it from Wards Pass. It is due to its name: sooo very isolated, absolutely fascinating.

It enhances the feelings of loneliness, being lost in the desert. If not Molesworth as a whole, surely this flat is the middle of nowhere.

The landscape in the foreground of the photo is covered in Sweet Briar. (More info about this invasive plant ? a kind of wild rose ? in General Tips.)
