"HAVE A BEER? VISIT THE BREWERY IN A BARN!" Westport Point Things to Do Tip by Pawtuxet
Westport Point Things to Do: 8 reviews and 29 photos
Buzzards Bay Brewing is housed in a reproduction barn set on acres of farm land surrounded by old New England stone walls. The original barn burned and the current owners rebuilt the structure in the original design, except they created an entirely "green" building... very well insulated and adding skylights and windows so that natural light is used rather than electricity during the majority of the day.
We were given a tour by a woman who is coincidentally a resident of Pawtuxet Village, whose partner is now the owner of HOPE Ales, which is also brewed in the new "old" barn. She not only described the beer and brewing process, but pointed out all the thoroughly "green" aspects of the facility and business. No plastic and little paper is used for anything here and the waste is either recycled or fed to local cattle. Hmmmm, we're wondering how happy those old cows are!!?? :-)
There is a Buzzards Bay Lager, a Buzzards Bay Pilsner, and a Buzzards Bay Black Lager.
The inaugural batch of Hope Amber Ale was available shortly after our visit at the beginning of April.
There are many events planned throughout the season including a cook out each Thursday evening in warmer months. They provide the grills and break open a keg... while visitors bring their dinner to grill on the peaceful grounds of the old farm yard.
