"Tunisians are very friendly..." Tunisia Local Custom Tip by jdak

Tunisia Local Customs: 142 reviews and 128 photos

Tunisians are very friendly and hospitable. They call each other 'Khouyeh' and 'Oukhti' ('brother' and 'sister') and if you use these terms as opposed to the French 'Monsieur' or 'Madame', you'll make friends quickly....Another good word to know is 'aish' or 'aishek', which means Thanks (it acutally means 'life' or 'your life') in the local dialect...Tunisians definitely take time to smell the roses, and you should too....getting things done, like airline reservations or exchanging money at a bank, can take a while -- just go with the flow...finally, while showing lots of skin is fine at the beach resorts, it's not well considered in the towns and villages, not anywhere near a mosque.
