Viktoria was her name. We hadn't heard of anyone with that name since a famous queen but our hired guide was knowledgeable and the great thing about guides is that they point out stuff you would normally not even notice.
For instance, in the first pic at one of the churches are two metal pieces were fastened to the wall. They were, in their time, the standard of measurement, usually dictated by the length of some notable persons arm from elbow to tip of hand.
In the second picture Viktoria points out the flood level of 1784 that has been inscribed in the brickwork. This was down near the old slaughterhouse, just across the road.
We hired her through the local tourist information centre for a reasonable fee for two hours. I should warn you in advance though that you get two hours, not a minute more.
