"Every time I went for a..." Sri Lanka Warnings Or Dangers Tip by brdwtchr

Sri Lanka Warnings and Dangers: 110 reviews and 74 photos

Every time I went for a walk alone some one would approach me. It always began with them asking where I was from then they would start to ask you to come in to a certain shop or ask if you wanted to visit a nearby temple. It is all a way to scam money from you and you should probably just tell them politely to leave you alone. If they follow you into a shop they will tell the owner that you are with them and ask for a commission on any thing you buy. Then you will be charged more for the items you purchase. Be ready to haggle for things also.

Gulf Air lost my luggage on the way to Sri Lanka. I left Colombo the next day and did not get my luggage back for a week when I returned to Colombo. I am glad I had my shaving kit and some clean gear in my carry on bag.

I saw a lot of soldiers and road blocks. My Sri Lankan friend suggested I stay away from crowds and government buildings because of tamil bombers. There was a bombing in Trincomalee while I was in Sri Lanka.
