"Abu Simbel" Egypt Things to Do Tip by azz8206

Abu Simbel is a magnificent homage to RamsesII. It shows RamsesII in different years of his reign. The first at age 20, the second, which is no longer there at age 35, the third at age 50 and the last of him at age 65. It was under the sand until a boy, which the temple is named after, led a team of archaelogists to the site. What is also great about this temple is that it was moved piece by piece with the aid of many countries working together. If not for the brilliant engineering talents of these people it would of been lost under Lake Nasser and the world would lose an important piece of its history. The Temple of Nefertiri alongside Abu Simbel, although it is smaller, is also a beautiful temple. Nefertiri was RamsesII most beloved wife and this was an homage of his love for her. You can't take pictures inside the temples. It's about 2.5 hours from Aswan and we went with a convoy of buses with tourism police escorting us. The cost to enter is 90LE per person.
Address: 2.5 hours from Aswan
