The cathedral in Milan is the 3rd largest church in the world. It took about 500 years to complete the church and it can be seen in all the different architectural styles that it was built during a long period of time.
Construction of the cathedral begun in 1386 by Visconti, who insisted that the cathedral was to be built in marble. Napoleon had the façade completed in 1813. He was crowned king of Italy here.

There are many big, colourful and beautiful stained glass windows in the cathedral, most of them from the 19th century. And there are of course lots of more excellent artefacts to admire.

Il Duomo is open between 7.00 - 19.00 daily.
