"Scam Number 2 - Dealing with taxi drivers" Egypt Warnings Or Dangers Tip by graeme83

Egypt Warnings and Dangers: 366 reviews and 200 photos

This tip is not just limited to Egypt but pretty much every country in the world. I needed to get a taxi from a bus station in Cairo to my hotel. I find that the best way to deal with taxi drivers is to tell them that you need to hire a driver - him - for a day long trip the next day (which I did). I'll take down his name and number and tell him that I will call him the next day for his services, asking him his price etc during the journey. This way I tend to get a fair price for my taxi journey.

I did get a fair price for my journey, but didn't like the driver. He tried about 300 times to take me to a different hotel (where he gets commission). For this reason I never called him back.
