Chancellor Resort Hope Harbour, Gold Coast: 10 reviews and 4 photos
We made this trip to the Gold Coast to attend a wedding at the Marina Quays International Hotel and, as part of the arrangements, the hotel reserved a number of rooms for guests. Given its location well away from the main beach areas and the main road, it is hardly the place most people would spontaneously choose for their Gold Coast stays. I might also add that, with its low profile, it does not even look like a hotel – as seen in the main photo taken from the canal side.
That said, the Marina Quays (formerly Chancellor Resort Hope Harbour) was a comfortable place to stay – as well it might be, given its four star rating. Situated alongside the canals and a marina of the northern Gold Coast, it has quite a pleasant outlook, there is a relaxing bar, the restaurant provides a good (smorgasbord style) breakfast, the staff are efficient and there is undercover parking. There also is a swimming pool, (photo 2) which I saw nobody use.
Our room was comfortable, though at one end of the rambling building and about a six day camel ride from the lifts, heading along corridors, down a short flight of (about five) stairs, then around an open balcony. The bed was comfortable, there was a fully –stocked mini-bar (if you use them) and the air conditioning was comfortable, though as it required the key-card to operate the room became warm when we weren’t there (photos 3,4). The only obvious ‘negative’ was that the wireless internet was provided by a quite expensive ‘pay subscription’ service: I’d have thought a four star hotel could provide the internet as part of the service!
NB. Because of varying exchange rates I have felt it more useful to give the price below in $A – it is per room and includes breakfast but varies depending which night is involved. See the hotel’s website.
Address: John Lund Dr And Sickle Ave
Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Marina Quays is on 'Hope Island', one of several canal developments on the Brisbane side of Southport and relatively close to the main 'theme park' area of the Gold Coast.
